Article 13385 of alt.sources: Red is a new text editor that easy to use and makes proper use of the graphical user interface provided my X/Motif. Red runs under Unix and X Windows. You need X Windows, Motif and a C++ compiler to install and run Red. Red has not been ported to many platforms yet. It has been tested on Solaris 2.4, Solaris 2.5, SunOS4, and Linux. (Compiled on all systems with g++) Red's features include: Graphical interface Full mouse and key support 40 step undo (and redo) User-definable key bindings Automatic backup creation Cut/paste exchange with other X Windows applications On-line function list, help and manual The editor has been quite thoroughly tested (it is currently being used by ~700 students in our department). If you like to get some more details before you try to install it, have a look at the online manual at http://www.cs.su.oz.au/~mik/red-manual/red-main-page.html (This manual is included in the distribution and can be installed locally to increase access performance. It is accessible as an online manual from within Red.) Red can be downloaded per anonymous ftp from ftp.cs.su.oz.au/mik/red/red.96.tar.gz (or, if you use a web browser for you ftp, go to ftp://ftp.cs.su.oz.au/mik/red/ --> red.96.tar.gz) I am happy to answer questions about installation problems or usage per email. If you manage to install Red sucessfully, I would like to hear from you. (Just a short line to know how many people are using it.)
