This sometimes causes problems when people install new versions of GCC. The problems always happen in stage 2, because that's when you start actually running GCC, and therefore also GNU ld if that is installed. So if you have a problem in stage 2, whether it appears connected with ld or not, try deinstalling /usr/local/lib/gcc-ld so that the ordinary ld will be used. Start stage 2 over from the beginning, and see if the problem go away.
