OTOH that may have something to do with improved hardware stability/standardisation. A lot of device support that came in W2k and later could have been done back in NT. e.g. I have a USB and FAT32 drivers for NT. MS just decided not to do it. Since then, the main differences are what you see. A large amount of change in the GUI and not all for the better. I still remember reading that the 'affinity' program would enable me to run my NT GUI programs on VMS. Pity it never came true...
