Here is what the top banner says: VAX/VMS PTEXT 23-SEP-1981 17:56 LPA0: 23-SEP-1981 17:56 _DRA0:[PRIME]PTEXT.DAT;1 VAX/VMS This is followed by the username in 7-character-tall letters, then the filename and type in 14-character-tall letters over two lines PTEXT. DAT;1 followed by the username in 7-character-tall letters followed by the same as the top banner. Frankly, I have no idea what the answer is. Anyone have any ideas what version of VAX/VMS these printouts are from? I'd say it would have been about the VMS 2.3 to VMS 2.5 timeframe. The lineprinter output format stayed pretty much the same for a long time after that. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 Nov 2007 01:17:59 -0500 From: David J Dachtera Subject: Re: OT: Good news: HP has retaken the VMS trademark ! Reminds me of something from many years ago... (Really only humorous to native English speakers, sorry.) A local church held a fund raiser which included a variety show, a talent show more than anything, really. Right at the top of the show, the MCs were announcing the acts that would be presented. Just before the first act was introduced, one of the MCs received an urgent dispatch from back-stage. He announced that he was supposed to warn everyone that "The Viper" was coming and we should be ready for trouble. Well, after every two or three acts, someone came out on stage with the MCs to repeat the warning, each with progressively greater agitation and urgency, "The Viper is coming! The Viper is coming!". At the end of the show, when the MCs were wrapping up and bringing some performers back for a final call, one of them ran out on stage yelling, "The Viper is here! The Viper is here!" Collectively, everyone on stage shouted, "The Viper??!!", then chaotically ran screaming from the stage through the audience and out of sight. As they did this, a grey-haired gentleman with large handle-bar mustache and dressed as a custodian noisily clambored his way on stage with buckets, a mop, a squeegee and rags hanging from all his pockets. He stopped center stage and calmly announced in a heavy accent, "I am de viper. I come to vipe yer vindows." -- David J Dachtera dba DJE Systems http://www.djesys.com/ Unofficial OpenVMS Marketing Home Page http://www.djesys.com/vms/market/ Unofficial Affordable OpenVMS Home Page: http://www.djesys.com/vms/soho/ Unofficial OpenVMS-IA32 Home Page: http://www.djesys.com/vms/ia32/ Unofficial OpenVMS Hobbyist Support Page: http://www.djesys.com/vms/support/ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 Nov 2007 01:21:03 -0500 From: David J Dachtera Subject: Re: [OT, but clever and funny] The day the routers died...
