What are the plans for giving this to the customer? ie. will we charge, how much, when will it be available, etc.? One of my customers read about Flight on the Internet and wants a copy. BTW. Compliments on an excellent job for 2.5 from all the would-be pilots in our office. Regards, John Rubinger ================================================================================ Note 1221.1 Details on Customer Kit Please 1 of 8 ANVIL::BUEHLER "Uncle John - has a nice ring to it." 26 lines 20-JUN-1991 22:15 -< A public kit is right around the corner >- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The current customer status for FLIGHT is as a give-away with everything included. That was, until V2.5 became available. I have created a single- saveset kit which contains the simulator, server, 16 aircraft and 2 worlds. That is the software which may be handed to customers without any charge or strings attached. It can be distributed as freely as you like. Consider it a sampler. Note that the editors, compilers and the other 50-odd aircraft and the more detailed worlds are not included in the freebie. I have yet to go through the documentation to see what should be made available and what should not. The kit has been constructed, and I'm planning on testing it tonight. You may see note 507 updated tonight or tomorrow. If that doesn't happen, nothing will happen this weekend, so expect Monday at the latest. Noone outside DEC should have a copy of the full V2.5 internal kit now or ever in the future. This includes the documentation. Doing so will seriously compromise our ability to turn FLIGHT into a revenue-producer. > BTW. Compliments on an excellent job for 2.5 from all the would-be > pilots in our office. On behalf of the two primary developers and the dozen or so active modelers, thank you. Re not having the editors/compiler in the kit. Shouldn't we make an exception for the likes of Boeing, MD et al, so that they can put some hum-dingers in.... ;-) q ================================================================================ Note 1221.3 Details on Customer Kit Please 3 of 8 ANVIL::BUEHLER "Uncle John - has a nice ring to it." 11 lines 21-JUN-1991 11:24 -< I'd love to get some models out of them... >- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- >Re not having the editors/compiler in the kit. Shouldn't we make an exception >for the likes of Boeing, MD et al, so that they can put some hum-dingers >in.... ;-) In all seriousness, FLIGHT should now be considered a possible revenue- producer. Therefore, if we were to supply a customer with more than the basic kit in exchange for models, I'd want a contract put together. Part of that contract would be to ensure that only that specific customer has access to and can use the compilers, editors and documentation. Just as a side note, I happen to spend my days on-site at Boeing Commercial Airplane Company (the branch of Boeing that makes commercial stuff, as opposed to military craft, or the-stuff-they-don't-talk-to-anybody-about) I don't have the time to do modelling, but I bet I could get any specs you're interested in for any commercial Boeing jet if there are any modelers out there interested... Is this a firm requirement? If so, I would presume that it applies to the customer kit as well. I have a customer who would like to get the kit, but they are still at 5.3-2. Charlie Beerman even tried it out on an earlier version of VMS (V5.3-1, I believe).
