NCARP (New COPS Analysis and Report Program) First of all, read the file README.CARP, to have an idea of what the original CARP does. CARP is included in the COPS package, and actually NCARP won't be of much use for you if you aren't already using COPS to monitor several systems. A problem I found when using COPS and CARP to monitor the systems in our network is that people (i.e. system administrators) don't always have the time or the nerve to read and understand a COPS report and act accordingly. So I thought that if we provide administrators with a human-readable description of the problems, as well as some tips on solving them, maybe they would pay more attention to the security in their systems. That's how NCARP was born. It generates the same information as CARP, plus a spoken description of the problems found in each system, along with suggestions for solving them. NCARP produces a global report on its standard output, and the reports for each system analyzed are stored in individual files. Optionally, according to a configuration file, each report can be sent by email to somebody, presumably the system administrator. I'm working on a version of NCARP that allows to view the reports using a graphical interface, but that isn't ready yet.
