Peter, What I do is BCC everything with my "Mail_Individually.com" DCL command procedure. NO cc's and no self. It was written for interactive usage, but I don't see why it shouldn't work in batch too. I may often have it running in its own Decterm window while I work in others. Never tried it in batch, though. The procedure takes several arguments: FORMAT: MAIL_INDIVIDUALLY where is the full name of the file to be mailed is the full name of the distribution list is the SUBJECT: line, MUST BE enclosed in Quotes is the FROM: line, MUST BE enclosed in Quotes is the REPLY-TO, MUST BE enclosed in Quotes is the TAG, such as [AccOps], SHOULD BE enclosed in Quotes p1 and p2 are mandatory, p3, p4, p5 and p6 will be prompted for. No wildcards are allowed for any argument. The routine checks for and reports rudimentary errors. You can send it from one VMS account and request reply email to another. Bounces are routed to the originating account. I actually use these bounces to generate a BAD_ADDR list which I use (via a DCL cmd procedure) to clean the original list (arg ) of bad addresses every now and then. When using Mail_Individually, first I make sure the Decterm window is wide enough (typically 221 characters per line) and has enough scroll- back memory (typically a 9999-line buffer). You may need a small, compressed font for this. I have inserted a 2-second delay between each mailing (so some equipment in between me and the enterprise mail server doesn't kill it as spam with all the same Subject line). After the mailout is done, I grab the screen log back as far as needed (using the mouse) and dump that into a log file for posterity. Copies of Mail_Individually.com upon request. No warranty is implied or offered. Helpful improvements *are* welcome. I'd like to have a few people try it and comment on it before I post it to dcl.openvms.org . . fred bach . music at triumf dot c a ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2008 05:21:18 GMT From: Tad Winters Subject: New BC06P-06 cable Message-ID: New BC06P cable (50 position SCSI with 90 degree Centronics connector) on Craigslist, for those interested: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/sys/541789783.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jan 2008 13:46:33 -0800 (PST) From: Rich Jordan Subject: Oracle buys BEA, and Sun buys MySQL Message-ID: BEA story: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/16/business/16cnd-oracle.html?ex=1358226000&en=39c44e610bc5ae4a&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss MySQL story: http://blogs.mysql.com/kaj/sun-acquires-mysql.html/ The former isn't of much impact to my work, but the latter may be. I would not worry. SUN is rather pro open source these days and besides the license on the existing code limits what they can do. My guess is that the only difference would be that MySQL customers can now buy MySQL support from a bigger company and that SUN may be pushing MySQL on its own platforms. In the chi.internet newsgroup, it was referred to as "Verizoff" in testimony to the perceived uptime of the services. I don't lurk there anymore, though.
