F/W is on the CPU board, so it is hard to see, that you upgrade a EV4 CPU board with a EV5 firmware and then swap the CPU boards... That means, the 5/300 CPU boards must already have a EV5 firmware. Don't load a EV4 firmware into a EV5 CPU board and vice versa. And don't mix CPU boards of different speed in the same system. >Could someone help me to find the firmware CD with SBUPGRADE.EXE tool? >Or should the SBUPDATE.EXE firmware tool work in any case? Sorry, don't know. If I use the EV4 firmware update, it obviously work with EV4 CPU. But if I run the EV5 firmware update on EV4 CPU, it doesn't work at all. Simply it loads from CD or floppy, then wait forever. So I would think that there really is an UPGRADE tool which makes the magic. > The Alpha firmware resides usually on the CPU boards - like it was > mentioned - but on the AS2x00 series the fw resides on the SIO board. > > Btw. did you try the cpu_upgrade command while running the firmware update > utility? I didn't know about this, as I only read the Upgrade Guide and it isn't mentioned (or at least I didn't see) I will try again with the Firmware CD (all 3 versions I've got) tomorrow when I could get back on tha machine which is in another place. By now, thank you! BTW, I agree that it would be much easier to get the files out on a VMS system than by hacking that old piece of C code. I just think that ZIP and FTP to a VMS system with a VMS knowledgeable person would be worth trying before starting to send tapes.
